Up at 3:00 a.m.. Made it to the 4:20 am bus for a quick and uneventful trip to OHare. Of course the 8:00 am flight to Miami was full. The young woman in our row was a foreign exchange student from Colombia who is going to Iowa State for two years. She was so looking forward to Miami because, “I didn’t know Ames would be so cold.” She appreciated Chuck’s “Flying Cyclones” tag on his backpack.
Through a miscommunication, we ended up waiting for the hotel shuttle at the wrong place and waited an hour and a half. Had to work hard to put on our ‘happy face.’ Anyway we are here. We go meet our group in just a little bit.
Just a note about the below temps in Rockford when we left. Of course we had on layers and layers which we started peeling when we got to OHare. My puffy coat, headband, and gloves got stuffed in my checked bag. When we got to Miami, I peeled off a light weight fleece. That was about as much as I could peel off, but the temperature change has been dramatic—a ninety degree swing for us in one day.
